Komodo National Park was established in 1980. Komodo Island
Komodo island become popular because the park as a home for Komodo Dragon, the largest living lizard in the world. The island is located between the islands of Sumbawa to the west and Flores to the east in the Lesser Sunda island of Indonesia.
Komodo Island is the main island in the Park. The park belongs in the Komodo Sub-District of West Manggarai District in the province of East Nusa Tenggara. The other main islands are Rinca Island, Padar Isalnd, Goli Motang and Nusa Kode.
Komodo island is approximately 37 km long and 22 km wide and about 336 square kilomoters. Rinca island is approximately 24 kilometers long and 21 km wide and about 211 square kilomoters. Padar is approximately 8 km long and 2 km wide and about 16 square kilometers . Gili Mota is 10 square kilomters and Nusa Kode is 7 square kilometers .
